Dear Athena is always early and an over achiever. Her bag started to fill up yesterday and she became VERY needed. Today her butt was soft and she started to drop. I had school today but, she loves me and waited until I got home to look serious. When I say serious, well, she was pawing little craters in the straw and pacing and looking uncomfortable and a little goo even. Pretty much everything short of actually going into labor. Around 8 my parents gave me a sleeping blanket and a walkie talkie and went to bed (my Dad had work tomorrow). I dozed and chatted with Athena who continued to not kid. At 10ish she woke me up and started to push (this was not the first time this had happened so I expected another false alarm) I did the two finger check into her birth canal and to my surprise, I found a kid bubble.
I summoned my parents after chasing her around trying to pop the thing. there was some difficulties but I found a elbow. A back leg elbow. Now, a breech was really NOT how I like to start a kidding season. Athena was trying to push the little boy out backward and I was trying to push him back in to find a leg or two. I won and after some more pulling and pushing, a big, brown buckling entered the world.
Next was a splashy brown buckling in the nose and toes position. Easy as pie. Then before I could even hand the splashy boy to Mom, Athena had pushed a splashy little doeling halfway into the world. I pulled and the girl came out screaming.
Athena did not feel like getting up after this so she helped dry the kids off and we had clean most of the pen before she stood and I could milk her colostrum. The kids are fed, healthy and happy. Athena is proud and sore but doing well. All was happy by 1 am.
