Our first group of kids made their appearance yesterday! Beautiful bunch! Athena had been acting very uncomfortable for days now and yesterday I had a feeling that 'today is the day'. I was sort of panicking and had a few false alarms.
Mom was convinced that today Athena would give us her kids but I hung out with Thena and soon after all of the other animals were fed she went into hard labor. Once she she knew what she was doing the 6.5 pound (Mom thinks the scale is wrong though) doeling shot out, slim everywhere. At first we thought she was all brown but after being dried we were pleased to see moon spots. Almost as soon as the doe was dry Athena popped out another kid! The brown 6 pound buck was trying to stand almost immediately. Athena took a break and helped Dad dry and cuddle her kidded and a few minutes later another 6.5 doe came out. I was positive there was something else in there but Athena said she was done. Dad (who was a rock all the way) brought her some warm molasses and water (which she guzzled).
The kids were hungry (and informed me of it all night since they were in my room) Athena was very upset to lose them and Mom slept out with her. Yet, all it well now, kids are great, Athena's great, everyone is great! :)
