Mom said that I should tell you the back story first. Menolly is never ever obvious. Last year she laid down and her water broke without her noticing. This year I was determined to not be surprised. To be perparded. So, I slept all yesterday and woke up at 4. I stayed up all night watching the goat-cam and moving it when ever Menolly moved. There was two false alarms. In the morning I fed, milked, and took care of our animals.
After some work around the home, Mom had to head into town. The moment she pulled out of the drive way I started to set up in front of the goat-cam to sleep. I turned the audio on. Something sounded wrong. I looked at Menolly and she seemed fine. Still sounded wrong. I grabbed the towels and headed out, totally expecting another false alarm.
Menolly looked fine, she was laying down with her butt up next to the ramp that goes into my milking parlor. There was a dark THING by her butt yet, under the ramp. A very wet, very new, very brown girl who was choking. All of the other goats were very attentive. I cleaned her up a little and saw that she had a srape on her nose. Sarina helped me clean her off and Athena insisted on cleaning me off. Sarah was trying to get in on the action too but was just succeeding in upsetting Menolly. Menolly was already pushing out another bubble. I popped it and caught a splashy brown boy. I cleaned off his mouth and nose then popped the next bubble that was already coming out. Another boy, very brown. Sarina seemed to think that these were her babies. Menolly, on the other hand, refused to lick them and refused to lick goo or anything else.
I moved the babies into the milking parlor and tried to get Menolly to stand up. She didn't want to. So, I finished drying the babies off and ran into the house to find more towels and iodine. Ran back out to babies. Finally got Menolly to stand up and milked her and fed babies. Ran inside to find another bottle. On my way out My Wonderful Mother was Back!!!! I was overjoyed. Suddenly things got alot easier. Parents really are great.
Menolly still has no mothering instinct but is happy to be lighter. The babies are happy and healthy.
