I had been sleeping when my mother burst in and said that Robin was getting ready to kid. Robin's butt had been hollow and loose since before Athena and her milk had come in this morning, but still, I did not expect much. Mom told me that I should go check Robin to see if she really was going into labor. Robin was in hard labor when I got to her and a little grey nose could be seen, Robin was still laying in the open barn. I was wondering at this point if my mom was blind, if that wasn't labor I didn't know what was. Later it occurred to my sleep foggy brain that maybe Robin had not been like that when Mom left her.
I could not convince Robin to stand up and walk the two feet to the kidding pen so the first 6 lb black doeling was born with lots of other goatie onlookers.
I was trying to dry the girl off and, keep the other goats from messing with poor Robin and, keeping Athena from messing with the new kid (Athena seemed to think that it was one of hers) when Mom came back and I handed off the kid. The second doeling was already trying to make her entrance. This was also a doe but very splashy and had one leg back, she weighed 6.5 lb.
The two girls were dried and we finally got Robin into the kidding pen. Dad got home from work with pizza!!!! (You know, the Hot-and-Ready stuff) I was sent inside to clean my self up before being allowed to eat. I dropped by the buck pen and told Ninja that he was now a father. He was really unaffected by the news.
We ate, the kids were fed, Robin was fed and we waited. I had felt another kid bubble when the last kid had come out but Robin seemed done. She wandered around the kidding pen licking everything that had ever even thought of having birthing slime on it. An hour later Robin promptly laid down and started to push again. The bubble would not pop, despite my efforts, and the head of the next kid was out without the bubble popping. No legs. When the bubble did pop, Robin strained and I couldn't push the little one back in because she was breathing. Lots pulling and pushing and the big 7 lb doeling came out head first. All girls! Wow! Robin was exhausted and it took another hour to get her to pass her placenta and leave the kidding pen.
All are tired, the kids are very strong and trying to walk away already. Robin is doing better.
PICTURES COMING SOON - REMEMBER, ONLY ONE OF THESE GIRLS ARE SPOKEN FOR!!!!!
