Witch Hazel Para Sylvia
2019: Sylvia was dry this year and while she is doing well, she foundered on her front feet. This has been an ongoing battle to try and repair the damage and make walking more comfortable for her. While we try to work on this, Sylvia will not be bred until her hooves are not hurting her and not appearing to get any worse. So far, that means that she will not be bred for 2020, and we hope that this is something that can be managed easily and we can get this darling walking happily again!
2018: Sylvia was milked through this year, and though this kept her from being fresh for linear appraisal, it allowed us to keep the weight off of her and gave us milk through the winter. Sylvia will get a year off through 2019, but has remained a beautiful girl in both looks and temperament.
2017: Sylvia has really grown into herself this year. Not only has Sylvia's milk production gone up, but she has fleshed out and developed into a lovely young lady. Her Udder has loosened up and smoothed out, her top line is even and she wanders about looking lovely. Sylvia is a sweet girl, easy to handle and docile in all situations. Sylvia is not only happy to be brushed, but is delighted to follow me around exploring when she has the chance. Sylvia takes everything in stride, is rarely seen having problems with the rest of herd, and is one of the most affectionate of the does.
2016: As a first freshener Sylvia didn't start out too great, but her milk production and behavior on the milking stand improved with time. When we finally worked out our differences in the parlor, Sylvia was putting out a respectable amount for a first timer and her kidding was dreamily easy and so unremarkable that we completely forgot to post her kidding blog! She is a delight to work with!
2015: Sylvia acts so much like her mother, Sarina, it's scary. She is high strung, but very sweet and wants to be pet. She isn't very noisy and has a habit of sneaking up and suddenly being very available for affection. She is a great animal and we are looking forward to seeing what her kids look like!
2014: Sylvia was the only surviving girl of her year, and we had to keep her. She was a small, skittish thing at first, but was always beautiful. We ended up getting Whimsy as companion to her, and the two were fast friends. Since then, they have gotten into all sorts of trouble, but nothing with lasting consequences. They usually just break our of the fence and go on little tours of the yard.
